In the 13th National Parliament election, prominent Islamic speaker Md. Gias Uddin Taheri is contesting as the Islamic Front candidate from the Habiganj-4 (Madhabpur–Chunarughat) constituency.
Taheri is originally from Bajra village in Daudkandi upazila of Comilla district. His in-laws’ house is in Madhabpur, Habiganj, and based on that connection, he has become a candidate from this constituency. There are three cases filed against him, all currently under trial, and each of them was filed after August 5, 2024.
According to his affidavit submitted to the Election Commission, Taheri’s profession is business, while his wife is a housewife. All his assets are in his own name; there are no properties in his wife’s name. He has no gold or jewelry under his wife’s ownership either. However, he himself owns 31 bhori of gold.
In the affidavit, Taheri stated that his income comes from business, agriculture, and bank interest. He earns Tk 26,400 annually from agriculture, Tk 7,91,000 from business, and Tk 22,892 as bank interest. His movable assets include Tk 41,286 in cash, Tk 7,63,606 as bank deposits, 31 bhori of gold valued at Tk 6 lakh, and furniture worth Tk 5 lakh.
Among his immovable assets, he has agricultural land worth Tk 1 crore 32 lakh 39 thousand, with the current value shown as Tk 1 crore 60 lakh 39 thousand. However, there are no assets, jewelry, furniture, or cash in the name of Taheri’s wife or any of his dependents.
