Responding to a question from MP Zahidul Islam of Chattogram-16, State Minister for Youth and Sports Aminul Haque announced that the government plans to make sports compulsory from Class 4 starting next academic year. He said the initiative is part of the ruling party’s election manifesto.
Initially, the programme will begin with seven sports, with plans to gradually expand to include more disciplines. The government aims to give equal importance to sports alongside academic studies to support students’ overall development.
The move is also intended to reduce children’s dependence on digital devices and encourage greater participation in physical activities. Aminul Haque expressed hope that the initiative will positively impact students’ physical and mental well-being.
