Spanish Foreign Minister José Manuel Albares on Tuesday called for a weapons embargo on Israel for the duration of the war in Gaza and urged the resumption of negotiations over Iran’s nuclear program.
Speaking to Bloomberg TV, Albares said, “The European Union is Israel’s largest trading partner. We must implement an arms embargo and stop selling weapons to Israel while the war continues.”
He also urged the EU to take a firm stance similar to its response following Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine in 2022, in an effort to push for peace.
Albares expressed concern over the lack of de-escalation between Israel and Iran and emphasized the need to reopen dialogue with Tehran regarding its nuclear ambitions.
