Zohran Mamdani has made history by winning New York City’s mayoral race, becoming the first Muslim and the first person of South Asian descent to lead the city. At just 34, he is also the youngest mayor in modern times. The democratic socialist defeated independent candidate and former Governor Andrew Cuomo, as well as Republican Curtis Sliwa.
In his victory speech, Mamdani addressed supporters and sent a message to Donald Trump, urging him to “turn the volume up.” He said the same city that shaped Trump can now show the nation how to overcome him. Mamdani vowed to unite people against hatred and division, declaring, “to reach any of us, you’ll have to go through all of us.”
