An 87-year-old British nurse, Jillian Margaret Rose, widely known in the area as “Sister Rose,” has devoted many years to providing healthcare to rural communities in Mujibnagar, Meherpur, Bangladesh. She returned to the village of Ballavpur in 1996 and since then has been caring for local patients, particularly mothers and children, through a small hospital she helps operate. In many cases, treatment and medicines are provided free of cost to those who cannot afford them.
Even at this advanced age, she continues to work every day to support the community. Over the years, she has also founded a nursing training institute, an elderly care home, and several community support services to assist people in need. After spending much of her life serving people in Bangladesh through humanitarian work, Sister Rose now has one final wish—to receive Bangladeshi citizenship and live the rest of her life in the country she considers her true home.
