The Awami League government was overthrown in a mass uprising on August 5 last year, forcing Sheikh Hasina to flee to India. Following this, hundreds of cases were filed against her and the party’s top leaders, accusing them of killing students and civilians during the July movement, along with various corruption charges. Amid this, several groups in the country are demanding her return from India to face justice.
In this context, Dr. Rabbi Alam, Vice President of the US Awami League, claimed in an interview with Indian news agency ANI on Wednesday (March 12) that Sheikh Hasina will return to Bangladesh as Prime Minister. He also expressed gratitude to Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi for providing her with safe shelter in India.
Dr. Rabbi Alam stated that the young generation should not be solely blamed for the current political turmoil in Bangladesh. He remarked that while they may have made mistakes, they were misled and manipulated.
He further claimed that Bangladesh is under attack and called for international intervention to resolve the crisis. He described the situation as not a political coup, but a terrorist uprising.
He noted that many Awami League leaders have sought refuge in India due to the ongoing political crisis. Thanking the Indian government, he said, "I appreciate Prime Minister Narendra Modi for ensuring the safe travel of our Prime Minister, Sheikh Hasina."
Additionally, he called for the resignation of Bangladesh's current advisors, stating that they should return to their original positions.
Dr. Rabbi Alam emphasized that Sheikh Hasina will return as Prime Minister, reiterating that the crisis was not the fault of the youth but rather the result of a conspiracy against them.
