A popular Turkish historical drama has profoundly impacted a life far beyond its borders. Julieta Lorenza Martinez, a woman from Scotland, has embraced Islam after being deeply inspired by the Turkish TV series Kuruluş Osman.
According to Turkish news outlet Daily Sabah, the show's production company, Bozdağ Film, revealed that Martinez was moved by the series’ portrayal of Islamic values, faith, and Ottoman history. This inspiration led her to explore Turkey’s rich culture, historical legacy, and Islam—eventually guiding her toward conversion.
In an interview with Anadolu Agency, Martinez shared:
“During the COVID-19 pandemic, I started watching Turkish dramas. The Islamic teachings and Ottoman legacy portrayed in Kuruluş Osman touched me deeply. Before that, I knew very little about Islam.”
Motivated by the series, she began reading the Qur’an. After nearly two years of study, reflection, and spiritual exploration, she decided to accept Islam.
Following her conversion, Martinez visited Turkey, where she toured Istanbul, the Bozdağ Film studios, and the Kayı tribe camp used in the shooting of Kuruluş Osman.
Describing the experience as “the most emotional moment of my life,” she added:
“Islam has given me peace, love, and purpose. I’ve found a new life.”
Kuruluş Osman, which chronicles the founding era of the Ottoman Empire, has become a global phenomenon, resonating with audiences across Turkey, Europe, the Middle East, South Asia, and Africa. With its powerful blend of Islamic values, Turkish heritage, and themes of justice, the show continues to inspire millions—sometimes in life-changing ways.
