Mahi Akter, 15, a schoolgirl from Bogurapara in Dipnajar under Kaharol upazila, died early Friday at Dinajpur Medical College Hospital after being stabbed during namaz.
According to police and family members, the incident occurred on Wednesday around 6:30 pm when Mahi was offering Maghrib namaz in her bedroom. Arif Hossain, 18, allegedly attacked her with a knife after she rejected his romantic advances. Arif had reportedly been harassing her before the attack.
Mahi was rushed to Dinajpur Medical College Hospital in critical condition and admitted to the surgical ward, where she passed away at around 3 am on Friday.
Police arrested Arif, son of Abul Kalam from Bhattaga village in Kaharol upazila, within four hours of the incident.
