Hasim Uddin, 44, a resident of Garbari village in Dulalpur Union, Shibpur Upazila, Narsingdi, was shot dead by police in Saudi Arabia. The tragic incident occurred on November 24 in Sabiha, Jeddah.
According to his relatives, Hasim had been trying to improve his family’s financial situation while working as a rickshaw driver. On June 22 this year, he joined Al Tejarat Company in Saudi Arabia as a city cleaner. He stayed in regular contact with his family and last spoke with his wife and children on the night of November 23.
The next morning, while on his way to work, Saudi police fired at a thief from a distance. One of the bullets accidentally hit Hasim from behind, piercing his back and exiting through his stomach, causing him to collapse instantly. He was rushed to the hospital by colleagues but died during treatment.
His wife, Taslima Begum, said, “I learned around 1 pm Bangladesh time that my husband had died in police firing. My colleague Altaf called and explained what happened. I still can’t believe it.” Hasim leaves behind a daughter and two sons. His daughter, Smriti Akhter, added that the Narsingdi District Employment and Manpower Office and the Saudi company have been contacted to bring his body back home. The family is now anxiously awaiting his return.
