Sarjis Alam, the chief organizer (north) of the National Citizen Party (NCP), has expressed his wish to see Chief Adviser Muhammad Yunus serve as the prime minister of Bangladesh for a full term.
On 29 March, Sarjis took to Facebook to share his thoughts, stating, “My lifelong desire will be to see a statesman like Muhammad Yunus serve as the prime minister of an elected government in Bangladesh for five years.” His statement reflects his admiration for Yunus, who took charge as the head of the interim government on 8 August, following the removal of former prime minister Sheikh Hasina. Hasina fled the country on 5 August amid a mass uprising.
Muhammad Yunus, a globally renowned economist and entrepreneur, has been widely recognized for his contributions to microfinance and poverty alleviation. He was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 2006 for his pioneering work in establishing Grameen Bank, which revolutionized microcredit. His achievements have also been acknowledged on the global stage with prestigious honors such as the US Presidential Medal of Freedom in 2009 and the Congressional Gold Medal in 2010, alongside numerous other national and international accolades.
