A group of robbers set up a fake police checkpost near Bhairab on the Dhaka-Sylhet highway, where they intercepted a microbus and a private car, holding passengers at gunpoint before looting their mobile phones, gold jewelry, and cash. Allegations of negligence led to the dismissal and transfer of Sub-Inspector Md. Fariduzzaman and Assistant Sub-Inspector Delwar Hossain from Bhairab Police Station to the Kishoreganj police lines.
According to the victims, the robbery took place around 1:30 AM on February 20 in Mahmudabad Namapara, Raipura, Narsingdi. When they attempted to file a complaint at Bhairab Police Station, officers refused, stating it was outside their jurisdiction and directing them to Raipura Police Station instead. A video of the victims recounting their experience later went viral on social media, prompting authorities to take action. Kishoreganj Superintendent of Police Md. Hasan Chowdhury confirmed the officers' dismissal, citing negligence in duty.
