Police, with the help of locals, detained a 28-year-old man named Shahidul Haque while he was attempting a robbery at the Rajshahi Krishi Unnayan Bank branch in Tetulia, Panchagarh. Locals said robbery tools were recovered from his possession.
The incident took place on Wednesday night (27 August) at the Bhajanpur Bazar branch. Locals believe the suspect had entered the bank in the afternoon and hid inside until night.
According to police and local sources, the bank’s night guard went downstairs for dinner. A short while later, he noticed lights suddenly turning on inside the bank and heard noises. Suspicious, he informed the bank manager and other staff, as well as locals, and also contacted the police. With their assistance, he entered the bank and caught the man. A bag containing robbery tools was seized, and signs of an attempted break-in were found at the bank’s vault.
Bank guard Anis said, “I saw lights suddenly on inside the bank at night, along with strange noises. I didn’t dare go in alone, so I informed the manager and locals. Later, when we went inside together, we found the robber.”
Local UP member Tabibur Rahman said it is believed the detainee entered the bank in the afternoon and hid inside, attempting the robbery at night after everyone had left.
Confirming the incident, Tetulia Model Police Station Sub-Inspector (SI) Asad said the scene had been inspected and legal procedures, along with further investigation, are underway.
