Diganta Kumar Das, a young man from a low-income family, drives a rickshaw in Kaliganj town. Both of his parents are disabled, and given the challenging circumstances at home, he rents a battery-powered auto-rickshaw daily to make a living. On Sunday morning (September 29), like any other day, he set out to drive his rickshaw. Around 10:30 AM, he discovered a five-bhori gold necklace near the Janata Bank intersection, valued at approximately 750,000 taka. Despite his own financial difficulties, Diganta Kumar Das demonstrated remarkable honesty by returning the necklace to its rightful owner. As news of the rickshaw driver's act of kindness spread on social media, he received widespread praise. Rashed Hossain, the necklace’s owner and a Singapore expatriate, shared his account of the incident with Dhaka Post: "While abroad, I gifted this necklace to my wife. On Sunday morning, my wife, children, and I were on our way from Helai village in Kaliganj to visit a relative in Jhenaidah town. As we passed through the Janata Bank intersection in Kaliganj, the necklace, weighing around five and a half bhori, inadvertently slipped off my wife's neck. We realized it shortly after and began searching for it, but we couldn't figure out where it had fallen. Losing such an expensive gold necklace left us all in shock."
