Nahid Islam, the interim government's Advisor on Information and Broadcasting, held Sheikh Hasina fully accountable for the deaths of police officers during the July uprising. Speaking at an event marking the 70th anniversary of the National Press Club on Sunday (October 20), he stated, "On August 5, snipers targeted protesting students and citizens until the afternoon. That day, Sheikh Hasina fled the country after ordering her leaders, activists, and the police to remain on the ground. As a result, many police officers were killed, and the responsibility lies solely with her." He also emphasized the newfound freedom of the media, saying, "Bangladesh's media and journalists have faced many struggles, including collaboration with fascism and dictatorship. However, through the July uprising, we now have a new Bangladesh, and I don't recall any time in our history where media freedom was practiced at this level."
