Mahfuz Alam, an adviser to the interim government, criticized the removal of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman’s photo, attributing it to the fascist regime of his daughter, Sheikh Hasina. In a Facebook post on November 13, Alam highlighted the contrast between Sheikh Mujib's early leadership during the fight for East Bengal's independence and his later years, when he became a tyrant, leading Bangladesh into division and turmoil after 1971. Alam argued that while Mujib should be honored for his pre-1971 role, his family's post-1971 actions, including the establishment of Bakshal and the continuation of a fascist regime under Hasina, should be acknowledged and condemned. He called for an apology from the family and a trial for the wrongdoings of both leaders. Alam emphasized that the removal of their images reflected public discontent, and he urged for the liberation war’s true spirit to be remembered, calling for accountability and the end of dynastic politics.
