DHAKA, Jan 18, 2026 (BSS) – Bangladesh has experienced a significant increase in remittance inflows, with a 56.3 percent year-on-year growth in the first 17 days of January, according to the latest data released by Bangladesh Bank (BB). Remittances during this period reached US$1,864 million, up from $1,192 million recorded in the same period last year, highlighting the growing contribution of expatriates to the country’s economy.
In the broader fiscal context, from July to January 17, 2026, remittances totaled $18,129 million, compared to $14,969 million during the same period of the previous fiscal year. This substantial rise reflects both the increasing number of overseas Bangladeshis sending money home and a strengthened global demand for their services.
Experts note that remittances play a crucial role in supporting household income, foreign exchange reserves, and overall economic stability. The continued growth in inflows indicates positive trends for the country’s financial resilience and underscores the importance of the expatriate community in driving Bangladesh’s economic progress.
