A group of students and people, seen as revolutionaries, staged a protest at the Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Memorial Museum in Dhanmondi-32 on Wednesday evening. Around 8:00 pm, they broke the entrance and entered the premises, chanting slogans against dictatorship, fascism, and the Awami League. The protest followed a Facebook call for a ‘bulldozer procession’ targeting a virtual speech by ex-PM Sheikh Hasina, who fled to India after the July uprising.
Sharif Osman Bin Hadi of Inqilab Mancha had earlier posted about vandalizing the site, while Hasnat Abdullah, a student leader, called the house a “pilgrimage site of fascism.” Protesters had also marched from Shahbagh before storming the building. Similar incidents occurred on August 5, when the house was set on fire after the Awami League’s fall from power. Since then, it has remained largely abandoned.
