Protest Calls for Noakhali to Be Declared a Separate Division

The demand for a separate division under the name Noakhali, instead of Comilla, has once again brought "Greater Noakhali" to the streets. The Noakhali Division Implementation Struggle Council and the united people of Noakhali have appealed to Chief Adviser Dr. Muhammad Yunus for intervention. On Sunday (December 22), the group held a human chain, procession, and protest rally in front of the District Commissioner's office to press their demand. Saifur Rahman Russell, president of the Noakhali Division Implementation Struggle Council, stated, "Noakhali is a historic district with a rich heritage and significant economic development. It plays a crucial role in Bangladesh's national economy." He further added, "With over 700,000 expatriates, the remittances they send help sustain the national economy. Given all factors, Noakhali rightfully deserves to be the 9th administrative division."
