Donald Trump won the US presidential election today, and Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus congratulated him on his historic victory.
"I am delighted to convey, on behalf of the government and the people of Bangladesh, my heartfelt felicitations to you on your victory in the US Presidential Election 2024," he wrote in a statement of congratulations.
"The fact that you were elected to a second term as US President shows that the American people have responded favourably to your vision and leadership. "Under your leadership, I have no doubt that the United States will prosper and keep inspiring people worldwide," the message said.
Prof. Yunus recalled the good ties that currently exist between the US and Bangladesh, saying that the two countries have a long history of friendship and cooperation in many areas of shared interest, according to BSS.
Trump claimed that during his prior stint in office, the bond became deeper and wider.
As the two friendly countries seek to explore newer paths of engagement, the top adviser expressed his firm belief that the possibilities are limitless and looked forward to working together to further enhance their partnership and promote sustainable development.
"Excellency, aligning with our commitment to a peaceful and inclusive society, the government and the peace-loving people of Bangladesh look forward to partner and collaborate in your efforts in addressing the global challenges in the pursuit of peace, harmony, stability, and prosperity for all," Prof. Yunus concluded.
At a press event this evening at the Foreign Service Academy, his press secretary Shafiqul Alam had earlier stated, "We welcome this [his win]." We hope that ties between the US and Bangladesh will grow stronger and achieve new heights.
When asked about Trump's recent comments against Bangladesh, Alam replied he was most likely uninformed, according to UNB.
