Prime Minister Tarique Rahman took steps to reduce electricity use at the Secretariat on Thursday, switching off about half the lights in his office and lowering the air-conditioner setting. According to the Prime Minister’s Additional Press Secretary Atikur Rahman Rumon, this initiative began shortly after the prime minister arrived at around 9:10 am.
Rumon added that the prime minister adjusted the air-conditioner to 25.1°C and instructed officials to reduce lighting and cooling in the Cabinet meeting room. Following his example, other offices in the Secretariat also lowered lighting and AC settings.
The prime minister urged ministries, government offices, private institutions, and businesses to use electricity more efficiently, reduce artificial lighting during the day, and make better use of natural sunlight. The call comes amid rising fuel prices and energy supply concerns linked to tensions in the Gulf region and the Strait of Hormuz.
