Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has issued a strict directive to Inspector General of Police (IGP) Baharul Alam to ensure that public movement is not disrupted during his travels.
The IGP confirmed to Jago News on Wednesday, February 18, that the prime minister emphasized the importance of keeping traffic normal and preventing any inconvenience to the general public due to VVIP movement.
Some roads were temporarily closed earlier in the day because of the prime minister’s travel. Baharul Alam said the PM instructed authorities to avoid such disruptions in the future.
Wednesday marked the first working day of the new government, with traffic police deployed across Dhaka, especially at major intersections, to ensure smooth flow.
PM Tarique Rahman, sworn in on Tuesday, February 17, paid tribute to the martyrs of the 1971 Liberation War at the National Martyrs Memorial in Savar and visited the graves of his late father, President Ziaur Rahman, and his mother, former PM Khaleda Zia, at Zia Udyan.
Road closures during VVIP movements have long frustrated the public, causing congestion and delays. The PM’s directive reflects a move toward minimizing such disruptions.
