Meanwhile, BCB director and head of the finance committee, M. Nazmul Islam, has continued making controversial remarks about players. This time, he spoke about paying salaries based on player performance.
Nazmul first came into the spotlight during the recent World Cup issue when he called former captain Tamim Iqbal a “broker for India.” He has since made further controversial comments on the same issue. When asked whether players’ opinions would be considered in the decision to go to the World Cup, he responded sharply: “No, it will not be taken. This is not for the players to decide. The squad is finalized without consulting anyone; the finalized squad will go to the World Cup.”
Discussions about performance-based pay have often surfaced in cricket circles, and Nazmul expressed a similar viewpoint. Initially, he said, “This might be considered in the future. Since performance-based considerations are involved, it cannot be my decision alone. The board will decide on this matter.”
He later added, “It should probably be performance-based. It would encourage better performance. If there are only incentives and no accountability or consequences, it doesn’t work properly. Both incentives and accountability must go together. In our case, this might also apply. This is not my decision alone; it will be the board’s decision. Since such discussions are emerging, this could be a future decision. If the board decides, it will make decisions based on performance. Ultimately, performance will determine the board’s decision.”
