BNP Vice Chairman Barkat Ullah Bulu stated that some minors have recently questioned whether the son of martyred President Ziaur Rahman should automatically become a leader. Responding to them, he declared that Tarique Rahman, as the son of Zia and leader of Bangladesh's largest political party, deserves the utmost respect. He emphasized that anyone wishing to say Tarique Rahman’s name must first perform ablution. He also dismissed attempts to create division, asserting that Tarique Rahman is Bangladesh's undisputed leader and will return to the country.
Speaking at the Comilla Metropolitan BNP biennial conference on Tuesday (Feb 25), Bulu highlighted Tarique Rahman’s 31-point reform plan, urging leaders to offer constructive suggestions instead of criticism. He reiterated that even if BNP wins 280 seats, it will form a national government with its movement allies.
Bulu accused Sheikh Hasina’s government of looting 27 lakh crore taka and destroying national institutions. He called for a historic national government to reclaim the stolen wealth, just as Ziaur Rahman had once transformed Bangladesh into a self-reliant nation.
He urged BNP activists to uphold the party’s reputation, warning against corruption. He criticized certain leaders for suddenly aligning with the Awami League’s financial influence and insisted that only those who have fought for BNP over the last 17 years deserve leadership roles.
Bulu also claimed that Sheikh Hasina’s oppression has made BNP the most popular party in Bangladesh. The event, presided over by newly elected Comilla Metropolitan BNP President Ubatul Bari Abu, featured BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman as the chief guest, speaking virtually. Several other BNP leaders also addressed the gathering.
