A group of veiled women in Bogura staged a protest demanding fingerprint-based identity verification instead of photographs for national identity card issuance. The demonstration took place on Wednesday (January 29) afternoon at Shatmatha under the banner of the "Bogura District Veiled Women's Society."
The protesters claimed they had been denied citizenship rights for 16 years. Walida Khatun stated, “We face discrimination simply for observing full veiling. We do not want to commit a sin by being forced to take photographs. We demand mandatory fingerprint verification and the presence of female assistants during the process.”
After forming a human chain, the protesters submitted a memorandum to the District Election Officer and the District Education Officer, outlining their demands. Similar demonstrations have also taken place in Dhaka and other districts.
