A Palestinian girl from Khan Yunis, Gaza — Reem Abu Awdah — memorized the entire Quran while undergoing treatment for severe injuries in a hospital. Speaking to Al Jazeera, she described her journey as both beautiful and difficult. “I planned to finish memorizing the Quran on August 24, the anniversary of my mother’s martyrdom, but I was injured on August 22. I completed it later, and thank God, I’ve now finished,” she said.
Reem shared that she had fled to what was declared a safe area, but a nearby tent was bombed, leaving her with shrapnel injuries to the stomach and requiring nearly a month of treatment. She completed her memorization in memory of her late mother.
Her sister, Safa Abu Awdah, said Reem recited the Quran while confined to her hospital bed, astonishing doctors with her strength and determination. Grateful for her sister’s support, Reem added that she is now preparing for her high school exams and that the Quran has been her greatest source of strength during the war. She was later honored for her achievement at the Habib Muhammad Center in Gaza.
