The court has granted a three-day remand for former State Minister for Information and Communication Technology, Junaid Ahmed Palak, in connection with the murder of student Manik Mia during the anti-discrimination student movement. The order was issued on Monday (December 9) by Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Md. Sefatullah following a hearing. Earlier in the morning, Palak was presented before the court. The investigating officer, Shahbagh Police Station Sub-Inspector Sheikh Hadiuzzaman, requested a seven-day remand. In response, Palak’s lawyers appealed to cancel the remand, citing his physical condition. During the hearing, Palak's lawyer, Farzana Yasmin Rakhi, argued that Palak has been implicated in 46 cases and had already been in remand for 31 days. She noted that he was remanded on November 9 in a case filed by Jatrabari Police Station and was later hospitalized at Dhaka Medical College Hospital due to a sudden illness. It was subsequently revealed that he suffers from severe back pain. Given his health condition, she emphasized that he cannot travel easily, requires a high commode, and cannot use a low commode.
