Toll revenue from the Padma Bridge has exceeded Tk 3,000 crore since its inauguration on June 25, 2022, according to a press release issued today by Md Masud Rana Shikder, Deputy Director and Public Relations Officer of the Bridge Authority.
The release highlighted that the bridge has maintained uninterrupted connectivity between Dhaka and 21 districts in the south and south-west regions. Vehicle traffic and toll collection have steadily increased since opening.
The bridge has reduced travel time, generated employment opportunities, and contributed to GDP growth. It has also positively impacted the transport of agricultural, fisheries, livestock, and industrial goods.
Electronic toll collection (ETC) systems are in operation at the Mawa and Jazira plazas, allowing automatic payment without stopping. Radio-frequency identification (RFID) cards further facilitate faster toll payments, reducing waiting times and ensuring smoother travel.
The release noted that these achievements were made possible through public cooperation and the modernisation of the digital toll system.
