More than 300 leaders and activists of the National Citizen Party (NCP) in Khagrachhari have joined the BNP after resigning from their party.
The joining ceremony was held on Monday (January 5) afternoon at the Khagrachhari District BNP office on Court Road. The event was presided over by Animesh Chakma Rinku, Joint Secretary of the district BNP, while the chief guest was district BNP President and former MP Wadud Bhuiyan.
At the event, former NCP leaders said the party had failed to uphold the goals for which it was formed after the July uprising. They expressed disappointment over NCP’s alignment with Jamaat-e-Islami ahead of the 13th parliamentary election, saying it no longer stood for people or justice.
They said they voluntarily joined the BNP, a party that believes in the spirit of the Liberation War. Notable among the joiners were NCP district organizing secretary Biplob Tripura, joint member secretary Abdur Rahman Sayad, Nirupom Chakma, Rupali Tripura, July Uprising and Liberation War affairs secretary Adnan Mahin, along with 19 office-holders of the district committee.
