Bangladesh's Foreign Affairs Advisor Md. Touhid Hossain emphasized that the only viable solution to the Rohingya crisis is the repatriation of displaced Myanmar nationals to their homeland. During an event in Dhaka on Monday, Hossain expressed concern over the increasing threats the Rohingyas pose to Bangladesh’s security and environment. He urged China to take a more genuine and active role in facilitating the repatriation, as Bangladesh looks to them for support in resolving the crisis. Chinese Ambassador Yao Wen, also present at the event, reassured that China has consistently supported Bangladesh in challenging times, citing examples like the COVID-19 pandemic and the July movement. Bangladesh currently shelters over 1.2 million Rohingyas, with around 800,000 having arrived since September 2017. Despite repeated government statements that the country can no longer bear the burden of more arrivals, the influx continues.
