Education adviser Professor Dr. Wahiduddin Mahmud has stated that steps have been taken to establish a separate university consisting of the seven colleges currently affiliated with Dhaka University. He further mentioned that a committee has already been formed and is actively working on this initiative. However, he clarified that there is no scope to grant any special privileges to Titumir College in this regard.
On Sunday (February 2), after attending the Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC) meeting at the Planning Commission, Dr. Wahiduddin Mahmud addressed journalists at his office. In response to a question, he expressed his personal opinion by stating, “At this moment, I believe Rajshahi College should be converted into a university, as it holds the distinction of being the oldest college in Bangladesh. The seven affiliated colleges and Dhaka University have not been able to maintain a mutually agreeable relationship. As a result, the process of establishing a separate university for these colleges is currently underway. However, setting a specific deadline for the implementation of this initiative would not be appropriate at this stage.”
