A newborn baby girl in Patuakhali has been named Khaleda Zia in tribute to the late former Prime Minister. The child was born on December 30 at the Kalapara Upazila Health Complex to Elias Aziz and Mariam, residents of Laluya Union.
The father said they chose the name to honor Khaleda Zia’s leadership and patriotism, noting that their daughter was born on a day of national mourning. The parents said they hope to raise their child with strong moral values, and the father expressed his wish for her to become a Hafiz of the Qur’an.
Local residents said the uncommon name has sparked discussion in the area, highlighting emotional ties to the nation’s political history. A local BNP leader described the gesture as a reflection of public affection for Khaleda Zia and her role in national politics. Hospital officials confirmed that both mother and baby are in good health.
