Rafiqul Amin, the managing director of Destiny Group, has officially declared the formation of a new political party, named the Bangladesh A-am Janata Party (BAJP). The announcement took place during an event at a hotel in Banani, Dhaka, on Thursday morning. In this new venture, Rafiqul Amin will assume the role of the convener, while Fatima Tasnim, a former leader of Gono Odhikar Parishad, has been appointed as the member secretary.
In his address at the event, Rafiqul Amin shared the party's vision and mission, stating, “Our primary goal is to play an active and leadership role in securing and establishing the fundamental and political rights of the people.” He further emphasized that the party would uphold the values and ideals of the Liberation War, as well as the spirit of the July uprising. The BAJP, according to Rafiqul, would focus on important national issues such as defense, sovereignty, ensuring communal harmony, promoting gender equality, safeguarding minority rights, and offering support to marginalized communities.
Rafiqul Amin, who is also the managing director of Boishakhi Television and the editor of the daily Destiny, had previously faced imprisonment in connection with a money laundering and corruption case linked to the Destiny Tree Plantation project. He was released from prison in August after political developments led to changes in his legal situation.
