Labour and Employment Secretary Dr. Md. Sanoar Jahangir Bhuiyan has described Bangladesh’s National University (NU) as a “major factory of unemployment,” pointing to its large number of graduates who struggle to find jobs.
He made the remarks on Sunday (30 November) while speaking at an event titled “Beyond Jobless Growth: Towards an Employment-Centred Policy Framework for Bangladesh Through a Post-Neoliberal Lens,” held at a hotel in Dhaka.
The Labour Secretary expressed concern that a considerable number of unskilled graduates are entering the job market, hindering the country’s economic progress.
“If they were properly skilled, Bangladesh could have earned at least ten times more in remittances,” he noted.
