RAB has arrested five people in Patiya, Chittagong, with 60,000 yaba pills and around Tk 250,000, including an officer of the Narcotics Control Department. The arrested officer, Md. Abdullah Al Mamun (41), serves as an Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) at the Muzaffarabad office of the Narcotics Control Department, Chittagong 'K' Circle, Patiya. He is the son of Md. Abdul Matin of Laxmipur Sadar Police Station.
According to RAB, while patrolling the Patiya police station area, they learned that a large quantity of yaba was being transported from Cox's Bazar to Chittagong in two microbuses. A checkpoint was set up near Quader LPG Filling Station on the Chittagong-Cox's Bazar highway. One microbus was seized after attempting to flee, followed by the second.
During the operation, 10 yaba pills were recovered from Al Mamun’s pocket, along with a walkie-talkie, a Narcotics Control Department hat and cap, and Tk 243,515 from the vehicle. The rest of the yaba was found under the driver’s seat of the other microbus.
The other arrested are Md. Mainuddin (30), Md. Rashedul Alam (38), Md. Jasim Uddin (41), and Md. Junayed Tanvir Tarafdar (29). The driver of a microbus remains absconding. A case has been filed at Patiya Police Station, and the five arrested have been sent to jail. The estimated market value of the yaba is Tk 1.8 million. Investigations are ongoing, and a five-day remand has been requested.
