A Bangladeshi fisherman was reported to have been killed and three others injured when the fishing trawlers near Saint Martin's Island were targeted by gunfire from Myanmar's navy. The event happened in the Moulvir Shil area, southwest of Saint Martin's Island, on Wednesday afternoon. After the incident, four trawlers and sixty fishermen were reportedly taken hostage by Myanmar's navy, who subsequently freed some of the hostages. The fisherman who passed away has been named as Md. Osman, who was from Shahpori Island's Konapara district and the son of Bachu Mia. Owner of a trawler Saiful said, "We were fishing in the water when the Myanmar navy suddenly came after us and started shooting. After that, they apprehended five trawlers and transported the fishermen to Myanmar." Saiful claims that one of the four individuals he shot aboard his boat passed away in Myanmar. After being freed on Thursday, the trawler is currently travelling to Shahpori Island with the fishermen who were killed and injured. According to the owners of Trawler, several of the people who had been kidnapped were freed on Thursday afternoon.
