Unrest in Iran has reportedly claimed over 500 lives, according to a rights group, as Tehran warned it could target U.S. military bases if President Donald Trump acts on his renewed threats to intervene in support of protesters.
The U.S.-based group HRANA, citing activists inside and outside Iran, said it had verified the deaths of 490 protesters and 48 security personnel, with more than 10,600 people arrested over two weeks of unrest. Iran has not released an official death toll, and Reuters was unable to independently confirm the figures.
A U.S. official told Reuters that Trump is scheduled to meet senior advisers on Tuesday to discuss options regarding Iran. The Wall Street Journal reported that these options could include military strikes, cyber attacks, expanded sanctions, and providing online support to anti-government groups.
