Monu Mia, a dedicated grave digger from Algapara village in Itna Upazila of Kishoreganj, is widely respected for his selfless service of digging graves completely free of charge. Over the years, he has dug more than 3,500 graves. No matter the distance, whenever he hears of someone’s death, he immediately sets out on his horse, carrying all the necessary tools to dig the grave himself and stays until the funeral prayer concludes.
Now 69 years old, Monu Mia is currently admitted to Bangladesh Medical in Dhaka. He is seriously ill, suffering from various health complications related to age, and has been receiving treatment for the past week. During this time, he has had to leave behind his home and his beloved horse, with only his wife by his side for support.
Tragically, while Monu Mia remains in the hospital, some miscreants took advantage of his absence. On Thursday night, they stole his horse and took it to Hasimpur in the nearby Mithamoin Upazila. There, they brutally killed the horse using sharp weapons and dumped the body by the roadside. Due to his fragile physical and emotional condition, Monu Mia has not yet been informed about the heartbreaking loss of the companion who had always stood by him in his noble work.
