BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has said that the only way to overcome the current crisis is to establish a political government through very early elections. He made this remark while speaking to reporters after a party meeting at the Chairperson’s office in Gulshan on Wednesday (July 23) afternoon. Earlier, Fakhrul held a meeting with leaders of nationalist minority ethnic groups, ahead of their upcoming rally in Mymensingh scheduled for August 30.
He stated, “The Chief Adviser has called on political parties. We discussed the matter and assured him of our full cooperation. At the same time, we urged that the election process be accelerated. We believe that the promises made to hold elections by mid-February should be implemented immediately.”
Mirza Fakhrul added, “There should be no further ambiguity—clear steps must be taken. We have conveyed this message to the Chief Adviser on behalf of our party. He responded that he would take the necessary action. As a political party, we always want elections to be held as soon as possible, because delays and the absence of a political government only worsen the situation.”
