In Noakhali’s Kabirhat Upazila, Jahir Uddin, a 40-year-old mentally disabled man, was falsely accused of theft, severely beaten multiple times, and then tied to a pole, where he ultimately died from his injuries. The incident, which took place early in the morning, was captured on video and quickly spread, sparking public outrage. The police later arrested three suspects, and a total of 33 people were named in the case, including eight identified individuals. Jahir’s mother filed a murder case, calling for justice. Local sources confirmed that Jahir received government disability benefits and struggled with mental health issues. Authorities and residents criticized the slow police response, which may have played a role in his death.
