Massive wildfires erupted in central Israel earlier today, rapidly spreading due to an intense heatwave and strong winds. The flames crossed Highway 1 en route to Jerusalem, triggering the closure of major roads and the evacuation of several nearby communities. Among the affected areas were Eshtaol, Mesilat Zion, and Beit Meir, where residents were urgently moved to safety. The blaze caused severe traffic disruptions on Routes 6, 38, and 44, as authorities scrambled to contain the chaos.
Dozens of firefighting units, supported by aircraft, were deployed to battle the fast-moving flames. Despite their efforts, three firefighters sustained injuries while trying to control the fire, and at least sixteen people were treated for smoke inhalation. The scale of the disaster prompted Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to visit the command center, where he personally oversaw the emergency response. He also directed officials to prepare for the possibility of seeking international assistance should the situation worsen further.
