Marie-Louise Eta made history as the first female head coach to win a match in European football’s top five leagues, guiding Union Berlin to a 3-1 victory over Mainz 05 in the Bundesliga on Sunday. The win marked Union Berlin’s first league success since March.
Goals from Oliver Burke in the 8th minute and Josip Juranović in stoppage time secured the result, after Sheraldo Becker had cancelled out an earlier goal from Mainz.
Eta, who took over following the departure of coach Urs Fischer’s staff and assumed her role last month, recorded her first win after one draw and three previous matches. Speaking after the game, she said she was happy with the performance, emphasizing the importance of getting results and doing the job well.
