A court in Mymensingh has sentenced a woman to life imprisonment with rigorous imprisonment for murdering her husband, a local Jubo League activist, after allegedly drugging him with sleeping pills and suffocating him. The court also imposed a Tk 50,000 fine, with an additional six months of rigorous imprisonment if the fine is not paid.
The verdict was delivered around noon on Wednesday by Mymensingh Special District and Sessions Judge Farhana Ferdous in the presence of the convict. The accused, Afroza Sheikh, also known as Iti, was the second wife of the victim, Shafiqul Islam, alias Sopu (25).
Following the verdict, Afroza was taken from the courtroom to Mymensingh Central Jail. She appeared calm and was seen smiling as she was escorted away. Addressing journalists while being taken to prison, she said, "Record as many videos as you want. Let everyone see."
