A new wildfire swept through the Hollywood Hills early Thursday, threatening a region deeply connected to the American film industry. This added more pressure on millions of Los Angeles residents already grappling with devastating fires that have destroyed entire neighborhoods and filled the skies with smoke and embers.
The wildfires have claimed at least five lives, forced tens of thousands to evacuate or prepare for evacuation, and scorched over 27,000 acres—an area nearly the size of 20,000 football fields. Among the largest are the Palisades and Eaton fires, which have destroyed at least 2,000 structures, making them the most destructive wildfires in Los Angeles history.
As firefighting helicopters flew across a darkened sky filled with glowing embers, dry and windy conditions fueled more outbreaks. Late Wednesday, a fire ignited in the Hollywood Hills near iconic streets like Mulholland Drive and Sunset Boulevard, known for their ties to American cinema. Although the fire burned out of control for hours, evacuation orders in the area were largely lifted by midnight.
