Mohammad Idris sent a photo of his hands and feet bound with rope to his wife’s phone, claiming he had been kidnapped. He demanded a ransom of 30 lakh BDT, stating that the kidnappers would kill him if it wasn’t paid. His family immediately alerted the police, and during the investigation, it was revealed that the kidnapping was staged. Idris's real plan was to extort money from his brothers to repay debts and fund his travel to Malaysia.
On Tuesday afternoon, the police rescued Idris from the Balur Tal area of Mohora in Chattogram. He is a resident of Sonai Chhari Moulvibazar, Toitong Union, Pekua Upazila, Cox’s Bazar. Idris had gone into hiding on the evening of January 24, calling his wife at around 8 PM to report the supposed kidnapping and demand 30 lakh BDT. Alarmed, his family decided to raise 3 lakh BDT for the ransom and informed the police.
As the investigation progressed, the police tracked Idris's mobile phone to its last known location and conducted raids across Satkania and Chattogram city. Unable to find him, they identified Nabi Hossain, the husband of Idris’s wife’s younger sister, who had been in contact with Idris. Nabi was detained in Chattogram, and from his information, the police located Idris. It was later uncovered that Idris had planned the fake kidnapping with Nabi’s knowledge. The police are now preparing to take legal action against him.
