A 28-year-old Australian man, Johnson Wen, has been sentenced to nine days in prison in Singapore for grabbing Hollywood star Ariana Grande at the Asia premiere of Wicked: For Good. Wen was found guilty of causing public nuisance after jumping barriers, charging at Grande, and grabbing her shoulders while she was greeting fans.
During the incident, Grande’s older bodyguard intervened, prompting Wen to run. Security detained him shortly afterward. Wen later admitted he grabbed the singer because he “wanted her to notice him,” adding that he felt starstruck when he saw her during the meet-and-greet.
Wen pleaded guilty and expressed remorse in court. Prosecutors sought a custodial sentence, arguing that such conduct could endanger celebrities and public safety. The judge agreed, saying a clear message was needed to deter similar behaviour. Grande has not commented on the case.
