Malaysia has made history by becoming the first country to allow zakat payments using digital assets. Datuk Abdul Hakim Amir Osman, CEO of the Federal Territories Islamic Religious Council's Zakat Collection Centre (PPZ-MAIWP), shared that this initiative aims to educate Muslims on meeting their zakat obligations in the age of blockchain and cryptocurrency. As reported by Buletin TV3, this innovative move by PPZ-MAIWP is part of wider efforts to streamline zakat payments. It's also noted that Malaysians hold digital assets worth RM16 billion, which are eligible for zakat contributions.
