Maheshkhali and Matarbari to Become Singapore-like Hubs within 30 Years, Says BIDA Executive Chairman In the next three decades, Maheshkhali and Matarbari could evolve into global hubs, similar to Singapore or Shanghai. This transformation will be driven by ocean-centric industrialization, a deep-sea port, energy and power projects, transport corridors, and the creation of modern townships. At a press conference at the Foreign Service Academy in Dhaka, BIDA Executive Chairman Lokman Hossain Miah highlighted the potential of these areas, emphasizing their role in shaping Bangladesh’s future economic growth. “Maheshkhali could spark a revolution in Bangladesh’s economy,” he said, noting that a deep-sea port will enable large-scale trade and industrial expansion, attracting investments worth up to $100 billion and generating 250,000 new jobs. The government’s long-term plan, Vision 2041, aims to make Maheshkhali and Matarbari the backbone of Bangladesh’s industrialization, energy supply, and modern township development. Improved transport and connectivity infrastructure will also integrate these regions with the rest of the country, making them central to Bangladesh’s economic progress.
