The 8-year-old girl, known as 'Nirbhaya,' who was tortured in Magura, tragically passed away on Thursday, March 13, at 12:30 pm, after more than a week of medical treatment. She died at the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of the Combined Military Hospital (CMH) in Dhaka.
The child had suffered four cardiac arrests, with two occurring on the day she passed away. After the second arrest, her heart rate briefly returned, but her brain function shut down, and her blood pressure continued to decrease. After the third cardiac arrest, she was confirmed dead. Despite a high-level medical board and her transfer from Dhaka Medical College Hospital to CMH on March 8 for advanced care, all efforts to save her were unsuccessful.
The child’s family had accused her sister’s husband, father-in-law, mother-in-law, and brother-in-law of raping her on March 6 during a visit to her sister’s house in Nijnanduali village, Magura. The child’s mother filed a case under the Women and Children’s Repression Prevention Act at Magura Sadar Police Station. All the accused individuals have been arrested and are in police custody. The court sent the sister’s husband, mother-in-law, and brother-in-law on remand for further questioning.
