Assistant Commissioner Tapasi Tabassum Urmi, temporarily suspended over a defamation case, surrendered to Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Md. Imran Ahmed's court and applied for bail on Thursday. The case, filed on October 8 by Abu Hanif, a member of the People's Rights Council, alleges that on October 5, Urmi made derogatory remarks on Facebook against martyr Abu Sayed, the student-mass movement-led government, its head, and Nobel laureate Dr. Muhammad Yunus. The court summoned her to appear by November 28, citing public fear and threats to government stability in the allegations.
