Tapashee Tabassum Urmi, an Assistant Commissioner (Executive Magistrate) in Lalmonirhat District, has been suspended after being put on Official Separated Duty (OSD) following controversial comments made about Abu Sayed, the first martyr of the anti-discrimination student movement. The Ministry of Public Administration announced her suspension on October 7, 2024. Students from Begum Rokeya University have given Urmi a 48-hour ultimatum for permanent suspension, threatening to block North Bengal if their demands are not met. They accused Urmi of being aligned with a dictatorship and disrespecting student uprisings. Abu Sayed's brother criticized her remarks, calling for her removal and legal action. Students, including Sabina Yasmin, condemned Urmi's characterization of Abu Sayed as a "terrorist," asserting that such statements are unacceptable and invited others to learn about his true contributions before making judgments.
